Youths jubilate in Abuja over Buhari’s victory
Youths in Abuja on Tuesday night took over major roads in celebration of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate’s victory in Saturday’s election. The jubilant youths surged onto the streets as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concluded collation and announcement of result of the polls. In Garki and other parts of the capital territory, the youths who thronged the streets in large number, engaged in fireworks of various types, with some sitting or standing in dangerously driven vehicles. Some of the youths were seen in open-roof cars, all with brooms and posters of Buhari and his running mate in their hands, singing victory songs while other groups engaged themselves in stunt-driving. At Buhari’s campaign office located near the War College in Central Business District, a large crowd of the youth laid siege, hoping the APC candidate would arrive. One of them, Sadiq Abba, told newmen that he would remain there until Buhari would arrive. “I am happy; I will be out here until I get a glimpse of Buhari going into the secretariat,’’ he said.
