Over 700,000 Applied For 500 FIRS Jobs – Fowler

Babatunde Fowler

The Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr Babatunde Fowler, has said that more than 700,000 candidates applied for the job positions available at the organization.

Mr. Fowler disclosed this while appearing before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition on Wednesday after several applicants petitioned the service claiming exclusion from the recruitment processes.

Out of the 700,000 applicants, more than 2,000 had first class degrees in various disciplines and were qualified to be engaged by the Service, he explained.

He said that FIRS has limited capacities and would only recruit 500 people, adding that the exercise was designed to increase manpower for tax revenue collection and expand the country’s revenue base.

Fowler however, assured that the service will ensure fairness and due process in the recruitment process.

“We have secured waiver and endorsement from the Federal Character Commission in order to ensure that the right thing is done,” Fowler stated.
