APC Chieftain Says Jonathan Deserves A Nobel Peace Prize

Former governor of Kogi state and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Abubakar Audu says President Goodluck Jonathan deserves to be given a Nobel Peace Prize for conceding defeat to the President-elect, Muhamadu Buhari, even before the result was announced.

He noted that the uniqueness of Jonathan’s conduct can be seen when compared with that of President Laurent Gbagbo of Ivory Coast who refused to concede defeat to the opposition party leading to the loss of many lives and properties.

According to the APC chieftain, if not for Jonathan’s concession of defeat, “trouble would have erupted in Nigeria.”

“I don’t want to pre-empt what Buhari can do but as far as I am concerned President Jonathan deserves to be recommended for a noble price for peace. You know what has been happening around Africa … that once a leader is in position he wants to stay put, they won’t like to relinquish position.

“Look at what happened in Ivory Coast and other places, we have seen a lot of maturity and love he said it is not worth shading any blood for the position of the presidency; how many people in Nigeria, in Africa, in the third world reason that way?

“They want to perpetrate themselves in power and for the mere fact that he has shown the difference he deserves a noble price for peace if not trouble would have erupted in Nigeria. Mark you that so many years ago America and other civilized countries of the world predicted that in 2015 Nigeria will disintegrate.”

Commenting on people’s expectations from Buhari who will be inaugurated on May 29, Audu said only the selection of a balanced cabinet with the right kind of people will restore hope for Nigerians.

“It is more difficult to manage money than to make money just as you said it is more difficult to manage victory than achieving the victory first. Once you have the right person in position all these things are no problem. Having the right leadership has always been the problem in this country, people with balanced outlook, people with balanced judgements, people who have the fear of God at the back of their minds and if you talk about that Buhari will score a very high mark if not the highest mark in the entire country.

“A square peg in a round whole is not the answer. Have the right people on the right job. People that have been loved and accepted by the people of Nigerians and consider the people of Nigeria who have been wallowing in abject poverty and the drive to alter that situation. Secondly people of integrity who are not clamouring for a position because of the dividends that comes from it,” Audu said.
